Did you know: In ‘The Matrix,’ costume designer Kym Barrett crafted each character’s look to reflect their subconscious and how they mentally see themselves inside the simulated world. Their chosen identity.
For The One, aka Neo, aka Keanu Reeves, the long duster coat worn towards the end symbolizes his transformation from lost One to awakened hero. Barrett combined the spiritual and mythical powers of a Japanese Samurai, 18th century Chinese warrior, and church clergyman so that Neo can do this with so much swag:
I became a bit curious about the film’s iconic styling because one of the pieces in our latest delivery from Montreal-based Mercy House is also called the Neo Trench Coat. The jacket even has a metal front buckle closure and D-ring wrist straps, baking in Neo’s buckle pants (if that’s intentional).
Just thought I’d share this finding along with our fit session video.
